 Vanilla Spice®  Clethra alnifolia 'Caleb'  ppaf, cpaf

 

This North American native is a standout plant with attractive glossy, dark green leaves and extra large flowers. The individual flowers are roughly the size of a dime, about twice the size of a typical Clethra. The large spikes are loaded with fragrant, pure white flowers in late summer. There are few plants that offer such wonderful fragrance in late summer. Butterflies adore this plant.

This plant is strong growing and healthy. The dark green, glossy leaves add to its attraction.

Bloom Time:  Late-summer to fall

Size:  3-6 feet tall

 

 

 

Exposure:  Full sun to partial shade

Soil:  Prefers moist, fertile soils but can tolerant drought once established

Pruning: Prune in late fall or early spring.

Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees & shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.

Uses: Cut flower, perennial or shrub border, in masses or groupings.
