   Spilled Wine      Weigela florida 'Bokraspiwi' ppaf
 

 

The new look purple leaved weigela. Spilled Wine has dark red, wavy leaves and a spreading habit.  Its hot pink-magenta flowers are similar to those of Wine & Roses, but this is a smaller plant that is wider than it is tall. 

Leaf color intensifies to near black in late summer and does not fade to green like some older selections The tubular flowers are adored by Hummingbirds!  

Hardiness:  USDA Zone 4

Bloom Time:  Spring flush with additional flowering through the summer and fall

Bloom Color:  Deep rosy pink

 

Foliage Color:  Dark black-purple with an attractive wavy margin

Size:  2-3 feet tall and wide

Exposure:  Full sun for best color.

Soil: Extremely adaptable, but prefers Well-drained soils.

Pruning: Best if done immediately after flowering. Also flowers sporadically on current season’s growth.

Watering: Medium moisture.

Wildlife: Hummingbirds & butterflies

Type: Deciduous

Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees & shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.

Uses: Shrub borders, grouping, masses, specimen and containers.
