   CARDINAL CANDY™     Viburnum

A special new selection with abundant glossy scarlet red fruit.

Tons of creamy white flowers cover this well branched, rounded plant in May.

The fruit on this plant is remarkable and abundant. The show of bright red fruit appears in late summer and is still clinging to shrub the next spring when the Cedar Waxwings come to nibble away.  Discovered by Rodney Henneke.

Viburnum dilatatum 'Henneke' pp12,870

Breeder:  Selected by Rod Henneke, Henneke Nursery, Milan Indiana

When a -30 degree cold spell killed all the dilatatum seedlings except one, Rod Henneke knew he had something special.  CARDINAL CANDY viburnum has improved hardiness compared to other dilatatum varieties, so northern gardeners can finally enjoy the impressive fruit of this viburnum.

Bright red, persistent berries make for a stunning display in the fall.  Fruiting appears to be strong even without another pollinator in the area.

Tons of creamy white flowers cover the plant in spring (May in Michigan).  The plant itself has a nice, well-branched habit, and fits nicely into the landscape.
